Mosaic Flowering Tree No. 3

I made a series of matching mosaic stepping stones featuring flowering trees.  Today I'm sharing the third tree in the series, my pink blossoms tree. While a flowering tree's spring flowers last for a week or so, this tree's flowers stay in bloom year round.

In mosaic tree #3 I used pink floral mosaic pieces for the flowers.  Pink floral china patterns are a favorite of mine, and I was able to reuse multiple tea saucers without matching teacups.

I tried to add dimension to this tree by using more dark florals in the bottom half of the tree (to mimic more shadowing on the lower part of the tree), but I think that effect turned out too subtle to be noticed.

This tree (#3) has brown branches showing, which is the improvement I tried in tree #2, but the brown branches don't stand out as much here as they do in the more pastel tree #2.  Still, I like the result, and this is possibly my favorite in the series.

(Maybe it's like children, can you say you have a favorite?)

Each of the stepping stone's in the series are 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter.  Below is tree #2 in the series, (post here).

Mosaic Notes:

Mosiac work using broken china is sometimes called Pique Assiette, or picassiette.  It's my favorite style, and the one I work in the most.

You can see all of my mosaic posts by clicking here

Here is a nice getting started tutorial on creating mosaics
using china - at Apple Street Cottage.

  2. Your mosaics are outstanding. I was playing canasta with some neighbors the other day and shared your posts, when one of the ladies said she loved mosaics. They were all blown away! Also, I just peeked at your floral mirror. Now I want to make one, too!! Beautiful.

  3. How totally gorgeous...I got three totes of busted stuff for mosaic, and yet I never get around to it. We are laying a new patio this year, I think I wll have to work on a few bricks over the winter...and I love your idea of trees! Thanks for the nudge to do something, Sandi

  21. Jeanne, these mosaic tiles are STUNNING!!! I made birdhouses for the ladies in my last tea group (around 2010) with broken bits of china mortared onto the roofs as a hostess gift (in reverse) for a tea I gave. They turned out great and looked lovely! I still have mine. ;) But I have a ton more broken pieces and always thought I'd make a table top for the backyard... Now I am thinking stepping stones would be fun! Thanks for the tutorial and idea. <3 So happy I could share your post at this week's Share Your Style #509 for you.

Have a great weekend and enjoy those tiles... Btw, where did you find the "tree trunk" parts?? That's be all I'd be missing.

    Hugs,
    Barb :)
