The final tree in my mosaic tree series wasn't even an idea until last fall. I had made three flowering tree mosaic stepping stones and I considered the series done -- until the fall colors of Wisconsin trees "planted the seed" for one more tree in the series.

Mosaic tree #4 is a fantasy tree in full autumn glory, the same size as the other stepping stones - 18 inches (46 cm) in diameter.
I had fun with the china used in this stepping stone. Buried in the tree is a piece of china with a snowflake, which hints at and symbolizes early morning frost. The snowflake is also a nod to the flowers in the other three tree stepping stones.

Finding the china to use for this tree was challenging for me - A. Orange isn't common in china patterns, and B. the colors aren't my usual palette (blues and pinks and florals). Orange especially was hard to find, and I felt orange was necessary for my autumn tree.

An improvement in this stepping stone was the "cutting edge" edge treatment. Some of my other stepping stones are showing edge wear, so on this project I used one inch commercial tiles to help stabilize the edge. The edge doesn't necessarily enhance the work, but I'm hoping the change will make the stepping stone last longer.

Your trees are just magnificent! Happy Fall!!
ReplyDeleteThe mosaic looks great, how long did it take you to make this?
ReplyDeleteWow! Another really beautiful mosaic. You really have a gift.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I really like the color combination. Thank you for linking up.
ReplyDeleteI'm featuring you in the next To Grandma's house we go link party! Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning - I love the colors! And thank you for the link to my post - very sweet of you!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! The autumn colours are lovely, and I love that you’ve hidden a little snowflake in there for the first frost. Such a great addition to the other trees! #MMBC
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can understand your problem finding orange china; orange certainly isn't one of my favorite colors at all. I think using the tile for the edge gives it a professional look and looks quite nice. #MMBC
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! I love the colours that you have used! Good job with finding the orange china, it sounds like quite the challenge.
ReplyDeleteStunning work! Including that snowflake piece is so clever, and the warm autumn tones are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful piece! #MMBC
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous fall tree mosaic that you shared at Talking About it Tues #141. I pinned you post. Please look for me there too (#47, 48, and 49).
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible piece that captures Autumn so perfectly! Featuring when my link party opens.
ReplyDeleteFall colors are just irresistible, what a beauty!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, what a spectacular design this mosaic autumn tree is! Truly, I can't even comprehend how you come up with the most perfect mosaic designs! What an artform! I've featured you on this weekend's New Upcycle Ideas 851!
ReplyDeleteA lovely mosaic! Thanks for taking part in the "My Sunday Best" meme.
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my favorite color! And this is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing with Sweet Tea & Friends this month dear friend. I'm so happy you're here.
These are very clever and pretty! We're enjoying spring weather down here in Aus but autumn is one of my favourite seasons too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning finale to your mosaic tree series, Jeanne! The warm oranges and reds capture Wisconsin's autumn glow beautifully, and hiding a snowflake piece in the china is such a clever touch. It reminded me of a lovely autumn traditions piece by the onc brothers, which made me appreciate seasonal handmade art like this even more.
ReplyDeleteJeanne, I was very happy to share your post with this final stepping stone at last week's Share Your Style #518 for you! This one is stunning with the border and yes, now I think you should chip off the others around the edges and give them similar or the same borders of vines!!!! It really makes the mosaic...
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a wonderful fall out your way,
Hugs,
Barb :)
What a lovely finale to your tree series, Jeanne! The hunt for orange china must have felt like a treasure quest, and those warm autumn tones really paid off in the finished stepping stone. Hiding the snowflake piece inside is such a sweet secret — a little winter whisper inside the fall tree. Congratulations on completing all four!
ReplyDeleteThe orange china must have been a real hunt, and I love that the snowflake piece tucked into the tree hints at early morning frost. Congratulations on finishing the fourth stone in the series! Did the Wisconsin fall colors guide which pieces you cut, or did the china you found shape the tree? I'm with OhPic Art, an AI image tool, and an autumn tree built from small mosaic pieces is a pattern we enjoy looking at.
