I love the joyful exuberance of poppy flowers, so I was thrilled to see this field of poppies in Italy on May 19, 2025. I pulled over in the car and stopped to admire the view.

There weren't many breaks in the roadside foliage for me to photograph through. I am standing on my tip-toes to hold the camera over the weeds at the edge of the road. The road I was on had a shoulder and then a steep drop off at the edge; and the grasses were thick and tall. I wanted
to descend down into the field, and get a better angle with my camera,
but I couldn't even see where the ground was and how steep the drop off was.

As a visitor in a foreign country, I didn't want to trespass; and I also didn't want to twist an ankle, or fall and break bones or my camera. I pictured tumbling down and/or falling into some watery ditch I could not see, so I opted to stay safely by
the side of the road for my photos. You should believe me when I tell you I wanted to get close enough to touch the poppies.
But these photos were the best I was willing to attempt that day.

I also love the image of the field alone, the pattern of grasses and flowers.

I accidentally over-exposed the photo above, but I like the ethereal enchanted look it has, so I decided to include it here.
I'm not the only person who has loved poppies in a field. Some of my favorite artists have painted poppy fields.
Claude Monet painted poppy fields more than 12 times.

Sometimes Monet's paintings were nearly identical with minor coloration and cloud changes.

Considering poppy fields are only in bloom for a week or two a year, Monet obviously enjoyed poppy fields as well.

Mary Cassatt painted the lovely poppy field painting below.

John Singer Sargent concentrated more on the poppy flowers.

And I'll end this artist tangent with two poppy fields and a beautiful bouquet of poppies painted by Van Gogh.

Spring and Summer are busy months for me. The weather is great - I go outside more instead of posting. This year I've gardened more than in most years!

A field of red poppies are certinly eye catching and beautiful! I love how many wonderful artworks you found that feature them. Happy Summer!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful image! You did well to get such a wonderful photo. I also immediately thought of Monet's paintings when I saw your picture.
ReplyDeletePoppies are such delicate and beautiful flowers. You did right staying safe at the side of the road. Fantastic photos. I have had a few poppies in my garden over the last few weeks but they don't last long, as soon as it rains the petals fall off.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a field of poppies as I haven't ever seen poppies other than photos. #MMBC
ReplyDeleteThe photos are amazing and so is the artwork. I write about art myself. Found you through the Inspire Me Monday Linky Party. Have a great Fourth!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are lovely. I was actually thinking that your last photo reminded me of a Monet painting so it was neat to see you include the Poppy paintings from so many of these artists.
ReplyDeleteYour poppy pictures are my favorite. That's right. Yours is best! Visiting from #AnythingGoes.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun week.
All the best.

I just love your poppy photos, especially that first one. That was a great find, and you had a super eye to notice it.
ReplyDeleteWhat an incredible photo!! And I've always loved that Monet quote. Visiting from the Talking About it Tuesday link party.
ReplyDeleteIt’s wonderful to see your photos paired with those classic impressionist masterpieces. It really shows how timeless the beauty of a poppy field is.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! There is an area next to my son's high school where they plant wildflower seeds and among them poppies. I wish it was a spot where you could stop and take pictures, but it is at a busy intersection.

This is incredibly beautiful. A wonderful collaboration between nature and art.

What a perfect photo. I love poppies, and apparently all the great artists do too. Visiting from the Homestead Blog Hop.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful collection! I also love poppies. They look
ReplyDeletespectacular!
All the best in your Summer!❤️😘
Poppies are such beautiful flowers. Your photos captured their beauty and I enjoyed the artwork you found showcasing poppies. Thank you for linking up.
ReplyDeletePoppies are beautiful. We see orange poppies here and I love the red poppies too. Those beautiful vibrant colors are sure to inspire art and photography. Your photos are really lovely, very painterly.

Beautiful blooms.
ReplyDeleteI have been to Tuscany, but not when the poppies were in bloom! Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteThose red poppies in your photos really pop. Love your landscapes with those poppies,
ReplyDeleteI once visited Tuscany and we had the best time. Poppies are among my favorites, and I'm especially delighted when they bloom wild somewhere in the garden. The examples in paintings are also beautiful. Poppies seem to have always awakened the artistic and creative spirit in people.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful post. And, I love how the over-exposed poppies looks so ethereal and enchanted for sure! I love photography! I'm so happy to tell you I'll be featuring this post at Thursday Favorite Things tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poppies and lovely paintings.
ReplyDeleteIt always makes me happy to see poppies somewhere. If there are also cornflowers in the mix, I'm extra happy.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos. They reminded me of my decade living in Italy. I quickly learned that I was very allergic to poppies, since they grew so prolifically along all the country roads and surrounding all the rice paddies around our village. They are truly beautiful flowers, I am sad that I cannot grow them in my own garden. But if I look over my balcony railing here in France, I can see a few scatterings of poppies growing among the other wildflowers around our building. I shall continue to admire them from way up here where they don't seem to affect me. :D Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow, love these photos. The poppies are gorgeous. Great shots. I am happy to feature your lovely post at Love Your Creativity. Can you change the link name to Love Your Creativity instead of digging and dishing it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poppy photos—they're my favorite too! Just remember, no photo is worth risking your safety. 😊 I visited Van Gogh's asylum in St. Rémy and Monet's House and Garden (see my post) this spring—both were unforgettable!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful post! I am sure I have taken the exact same photo in Tuscany with the hillside town and poppyfield in the foreground! Thanks for taking part in the "My Sunday Best" meme.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Nick's Sunday Best meme. I love the fields of poppies, beautiful photos. The art work is lovely too. Take care, enjoy your day and the new week ahead.
I'm back again- visiting from NixPixMix where you were the featured post!
ReplyDeleteAll the best.
