The
latest Orchid Show I attended featured a wonderfully whimsical peacock whose tail is
created with thousands of living orchids.

An artist created the peacock's head, and the gardeners formed the tail with living, blooming orchids which will continue to bloom for weeks.

You can see hundreds of blossoms (looking like circles) in the photo above that will open over the next several weeks.

These two photos show some of the orchids making up the tail. All of the varieties of orchids used in the show originate from the country of India.

The photo below shows the detail of the left part of the tail. Foliage behind the orchids were tinted to highlight the orchids. This image can give a better sense of the size of the peacock, the tail is about 10 to 12 feet high. (The peacock's head is over 5 feet off the ground)

The peacock, as well as many other displays, can be seen at the Chicago Botanic Garden's latest orchid show, titled "India Blooms".

This show may well be their best orchid show yet, and I
think I have attended most of their eleven shows. The
show runs from February 8 to March 23, 2025, and if you can attend the show, I highly recommend the visit.

The
shows creators created fantastic floral fantasy displays designed to
delight all ages, using only orchid varieties originating from India.

Many of the Indian orchid varieties will be especially interesting to US orchid enthusiasts, but any flower lovers can enjoy the multitude of beautiful orchid varieties
and displays presented, which I would show if I had more time.
