St. Patrick's Day Hutch

St. Patrick's Day Hutch Arrangement

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I don't remember ever arranging my Hutch for St. Patrick's Day, but this year I decided to try, and here is the result.  Apparently (but also not exactly surprisingly) I do have enough green dishes to make it work.

Boopie Burple Anchor Hocking Forest Green glassware
Anchor Hocking Burple Forest Green Glassware

I started with some forest green glassware that I consider ubiquitous.   Made by Anchor Hocking and called the unlikely name Burple, they seem to be in nearly every antique store, older estate sale, and are often in resale shops too.  I love the deep green glow this glassware has.

I have stories about many of the dishes I've found - stories I remember as I am assembling the hutch.  For example, five of the green Majolica plates were souvenirs from France -  found in a tiny resale shop stumbled upon while waiting for a train back to Paris somewhere in a small town somewhat near a French (palace) "Chateau".  The dishes bring a flood of memories.

The shell plates below remind me of the retiring antique dealer (over 80 years old) who gave me an incredible deal on some plates I had admired for years.

Will he return to the antique show after this pandemic?  Perhaps I'll never see him again, but these dishes will remind me of him - and also his wife who was no longer able to attend the antique shows in the last couple of years.

Occasionally I have a "where in the heck did I get this" moment as I find something I forgot I owned.  ($5 bag sales are a fun end of an estate sale tool in Wisconsin - Other thrifters - do they have them in your part of the world?)

Antique green coinspot tumbler

I also included my green tumblers.  I don't know why I like tumblers so much, but I do!

Meissen plate from Germany

I found the Meissen plate above at an estate sale in 2020.  (I wore my mask.)  I didn't own any Meissen plates, so I bought it as a sort of retail therapy.  It gets the center position, even though I recognize it's kind of over the top.

I've been enjoying the St. Patrick's day decor I've noticed on many blogs.  I hope you enjoy my contribution.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

St Pats Day Treasure

St Patricks Day Welcome vignette by Selep Imaging
St. Patrick's Day treasure

I created a St. Patrick's Day Welcome vignette in my dining room with some rummage sale finds.  I buy little quirky items with the idea of putting them out at the appropriate season, and this is the first year I actually made a St. Patrick's display.  I made the vignette this year just so I could make a blog post for the 'parties'.

St. Patrick's Display
Four children (and the husband) came home from school and four children (and the spouse) didn't notice or comment on new arrangement in the dining room... (where we eat!)  Sigh...  At least now I feel I can justify those rummage sale stops!   ;)

The welcome sign ($1 or $2) and the little bell ($.50) I got at rummage sales in 2010.  The other plates I have gotten over the years.  Both of the Majolica-like plates (the dark green plates with a 3D relief pattern) have a chips.  I think the cool clear glass tray is stunning, but it has an unfortunate center etching of fruit that really doesn't go with the geometric edge, so it was $3 or under.  I think one designer made the platter, and another "added" to the center design.  I just blocked the center with the ivy plate.

The cup and saucer on the lower right shelf are Bellek porcelain that we got from my husband's Grandmother.  The beauty of the bellek china kind of gets overlooked in this display, but I really cherish the china and I am glad I am using it.

Halloween Hutch Display

Welsh Dresser Halloween China cabinet hutch display
Halloween china vignette

I love my hutch.  I love my hutch because I can easily display different plates throughout the seasons.  Ta da!  This is the first time I have seasonally arranged it.  This is my October/Halloween hutch arrangement.

Basically, the only thing that makes it "Halloween" are 3 plates with pumpkins on them that I got for about $1.50 total at a rummage sale.  The plates are either (a) fun, or (b) scary.  I have four children I figured would probably like the pumpkin plates (more then I do).  I am hoping that they may someday come to appreciate the other china pieces too, if I mix in fun plates and ask them to pick a favorite.

To add to the Halloween look
I brought out various black and white plates I had as well.  (My collection lacks orange plates.)  The overall effect falls far short of the look I hoped to achieve, but I figure my arranging skills can only improve over time. (No place to go but up?)  Note: I know I did have the mini pumpkins in different spots, and I know the children moved them around.

Antique china Brown transfer ware
Brown transfer ware

I found both the antique brown and cream dishes (brown transfer ware) and the harvest fruit plates at different rummage sales within the last two months.  The brown transfer ware china has really grown on me.  The line art is so beautiful.

The fruit plates are labeled on the back 'Pomona Portmeirion', made in England, and have a designed by date of 1982. The various steins and pewter pieces have been accumulated over the years by my husband, some of them from his grandparents.
