This Japanese Wisteria bonsai tree was in bloom at the Chicago Botanic Garden when I went there on May 3, 2010.
This is what it looked like on April 29, 2010, 3 days earlier.
I didn't expect to see it blooming, but I got lucky when my husband agreed to go with me on May 3, 2010. I love it!
The Chicago Botanic Garden has one of the largest public collections of Bonsai trees in the United States. They have over 180 trees, and they rotate displaying the trees outside, featuring the trees when they are the most beautiful. I guess I will have to go back in fall! They had probably more then 25 trees displayed outside on the days I was there.

ReplyDeleteI've never seen a blooming bonsai before. It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Jeanne! The Japanese Wisteria bonsai is amazing! My next-door neighbor has had bonsai since we all moved onto the street 26 years ago. He asks me to water them when they are on vacation. He would love to see this, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to tell the size of this tree especially with the little one next to it. About how tall is the wisteria?

How wonderful you were able to see it at it's peak of bloom!
ReplyDeleteI am responding to LDH. The little bonsai tree was UNDER 6 inches, maybe 3 or 4 inches at the most. The Wisteria bonsai was maybe 2, 2.5 feet high. I don't think it was anywhere near 3 feet high. The little tree was so outshown by the wisteria, I never even looked at what the little tree's name was.
ReplyDeleteSo very nice to have you join us! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lovely blog -- hope to see more of you.
Claudia
