Sunrise at Yosemite's El Capitan

El Capitan Sunrise by Jeanne Selep in Yosemite National Park

In March 2023, I had the opportunity to visit Yosemite National Park in California.  Getting up early to see the sunrise, I took these photos of El Capitan, a majestic wall of granite rock that's 3000 feet high (over 900 meters).  I took this photo from across the valley floor, looking up.

I love the way the early morning sun warmed the usually gray rock walls with a golden glow.  A shadow line cast by neighboring rock formations made El Capitan fade to blue at the bottom, a blue which matched the cloudless sky.  The rock backdrop framing the tree's organic silhouettes created a contrast between fragile living trees and ancient solid rock.

Yosemite had many notable views, which I hope to share in future posts.  There are so many places to be in the park at sunrise!  Where to go, and for how long?  I looped the valley floor, enjoying what I could find.

  8. What a beauty to behold. Yosemite is on our list of national parks to visit once our young kids are old enough to do some hiking! I love that Dante quote you mentioned; had not heard of it before, but it reminded me of a similar quote I love by Jonathan Edwards: "Nature is God's greatest evangelist".

Hopping over from My Wee Abode's link-up party.
