Valentine Vignette and Mosaic Birdhouse

A narrow table on my stair's landing adds a little bit of Holiday into my foyer.

Winter Valentine decor Vignette

I decorate the table top seasonally, and the decorations for a specific holiday or season change every year.  I arranged this Valentine/winter vignette last year.

If your returning to my blog you might guess I made the mosaic bird house.  You would be right.  (I've made many mosaic projects.)

I created this to be a actual outside bird house for birds.  But then it ended up looking like a snowy chalet, and I decided to use it inside as a decoration.  Besides, I thought the golden roof tiles might not last well outside.

Its funny how my project results are often unpredictable.  A "Valentine" ball I made using hearts and words like "love" and found objects ended up looking spooky and Goth like.  The "striking" red and black ball I intended to make became a Valentine ball.  And my "summery" birdhouse resembles a snowy chalet.  Go with the flow I guess.  Creation is an unpredictable process.

Miscellaneous notes: I found the red hearts (made from repurposed books) at an artsy vintage store.  (Support these creative retail stores!)  I've been collecting the glass trees from rummage/estate sales when I see them at a low price.  The birdhouse rests on a vintage cake stand.  The marble topped table was a cherished vintage find because it fit so well in the landing.

The picture below shows the full view of the table on the landing.  (Help me out - would this piece of furniture really called a table?  Otherwise, what is it?).  Sometimes I arrange the oversized books I display in the base for the time of year, but not in this photo.  (I would have for the photo if I had noticed it in time.  In this view it has oversized books I had recently referenced.)

I'll show you my Christmas arrangement using many of the same elements from the Valentine vignette above.  I thought a simple arrangement would showcase the three button trees a friend made and gave me as a gift.  (She has an astounding button collection.)

The sign on the table is a stone engraved souvenir (I paid full price!) that I bought in San Diego.  The sentiment has been a favorite for years, but now it has a darker irony(?) when you think about the pandemic.

"Life
is not measured by the
number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that
take our breath away."

  10. After last week we were put in another mini-crisis of a cold spell to 4 degr., 6 inches of snow and power outages. So I forgot if I responded to your comment you put on my artnotes. Kind and touching:)
LOVE the bird house! Very tastefully done, but also love the glass trees. The Christmas trees are very creative - many thanks for your creative touch and sharing it with All Seasons. Have an adventurous week in creativity, Jesh

  14. @Susan - No, Currently I do not sell my work. I create for pleasure, and I don't think I could spend the time needed to make a "profit" at it. Mosaics in particular are very time consuming. I tried etsy more than a decade ago, but family obligations, kids, etc. made the selling aspect too time consuming. You can almost see my "overload" in the number of posts I have made over the years. LOL, though, thank you for asking!
