Sweet Dreams

Today I have been dreaming of European desserts!

I've been looking at past vacation photos, and I realized how much I enjoy taking photos of (and sampling) European desserts and pastries. In France, Italy and Austria, sweet photos keep appearing in my camera and filling up my hard drive.  ;)

In addition, I was watching the Winter Olympics in Italy and I keep noticing the excerpts with food!  The result - today I am sharing some sweet dreams from a stay in Vienna.

In the parts of Europe I've been to, if I had to pick one place for desserts by name, it would be Cafe Central, a restaurant and patisserie located in the center of Austria's capital Vienna.
[Vienna is called Wien, pronounced Veen, by most Europeans, the Austrians themselves and all the maps and signs.  So why do we call it Vienna?]

The exterior and interior are historical, beautiful and unique... -->  But this post is about the desserts - which are out of this world!  (Or at least out of the world of what I can find in Wisconsin.)

Cafe Central has an in-house dedicated pastry chef and team taking the time to create the desserts with love and devotion, turning the pastries into mini works of art.

The patisserie has been perfecting desserts since 1876, when Cafe Central opened for business.

Most of the desserts combine unique flavors and ingredients.  Many also include a chocolate medallion with Cafe Central's logo.

My adult children and I went to Cafe Central multiple times because we loved the experience.  With three people sharing bites of three different desserts each time, I had the lucky opportunity to sample several of the creations.

There are plenty of reasons to dream of dining there and snacking on desserts again.

For now, though, eating there will have to be a sweet memory.

Cafe Central has a great website with lots of information on the history and architecture.  Click here for the English version if you would like more details.

Is there a far away restaurant that you would like to revisit?  Or a place with a pastry chef you love?  Leave a comment if you have time.

  7. That looks really great dear Jeanne. In our city we´ve also got a restaurant called Hotel Café Central in Innsbruck. But I think the candies in Vienna are better.

  8. I love just looking at these! :) I was in Vienna a year ago and enjoyed the cakes at Aida, but Cafe Central looks amazing inside and out. We waited 45 minutes to get into Cafe Sacher for sachertorte but liked Aida's cake better! There's a little cafe at Mozartplatz in Salzburg called Cafe Glockenspiel that had amazing desserts and European hot chocolate. Great photos. I love European desserts, candies, breads, and hot chocolate! :) Visiting from the Sweet Tea & Friends linkup.
